As a "Capitalist Tree Hugger," I am convinced that environmental improvement and profitability are not mutually exclusive concepts. They can and should be complementary.

With nearly 40 years of industrial experience, most recently having responsibility for developing environmental strategies, I have become convinced that for environmental programs to be truly sustainable they must first be cost effective.

This is especially relevant to the Hospitality and Tourism industry. With proper focus, programs can be instituted that enhance the experience of customers, are environmentally preferable, and reduce operating costs."
